Surgical lasers - Principle
Different types of laser are used depending on the nature of the treatment and the tissue to be treated:
- Continuous CO2, Nd:YAG or diode lasers thanks to thermal effects (photo-coagulation, photo-thermolysis, ...)
- Pulsed lasers leading to mechanical effect (Photo-ablation)
Wavelength in the range from visible to Infra-Red, continuous power reaching few ten's Watt.
Surgical lasers - Applications
- Neuro-surgical : Treatment of meningeal tumors
- Photochemotherapy
- Fluorescence imaging
- Photo-ablative lasers
- Phlebology : Treatment of varicose veins
- Dermatology : Laser treatment (photo-coagulation or selective photo-thermolysis)
- Vascular skin lesions (angiomas, érythrocouperose)
- Pigmented spots, acne
- Tattoo removal
- Epilation
- Gastroenterology :
- Treatment of hemangiomas or tumors by photo-coagulation
- Destruction of kidney stones (pulsed lasers)
- Gynecology :
- Treatment of cervical cancers (CO2 laser)
- Pneumology :
- Treatment of fibrous strenosis, benign tumors and cancers by endoscopic lasers (Nd:YAG, KTP)
