Optical Fibre Sensors - Principle
Various designs are available, but 2 types are usually considered :
- intrinsic (the optical fibre is used for the transduction of the mesurand)
- extrinsic (the transduction is given by a specific component and the fibre is used for the transportation of the signal)
Optical Fibre Sensors - Applications
- Inertial navigation systems
- Optical Fibre Gyros (Sagnac interferometry)
- Ageing of civil structures (strain and deformation monitoring of bridges, tunnels, ...)
- Off-shore
- Hydrophones (acoustic)
- Pressure and temperature
- Chemical analysis
- Pollutants, pathogens detection (Biosensors)
- ...
